Many people don't seem to realize just what debate is and how exactly one should go about debating. Of course, you can debate
about anything you want however you want to and call it debate. But this is what causes the endless back and forth arguments
of "I'm right and you're wrong". Unfounded, undefined debate almost inevitably results in this sort of trivial and
worthless debate. And the final result of it is that a conclusion is rarely reached. Both sides still consider themselves
in the right and the other in the wrong. And you know what the worst part is? They are both right.
Now how is that possible? Simply put, the so-called debate they put forth was little more than personal opinion. Unless
you are persuasive enough to change the other persons mind, there never will be a conclusion. In short, debate should and
must consist of facts. Of course, it is impossible to keep all opinion out of debate but there is a largely overlooked solution.
IMO. In My Opinion, meaning that the person is expressing their own personal opinion, which is not subject to debate. Three
letters, for all those like me who are too lazy to write it out, and those three letters can save a LOT of useless debate.
Remember, debate is fine, debate is great. With debate, you can question what is and at the same time find ways of making
it better. Debate, when done correctly and intelligently, answers questions as well as raising others, and it also opens peoples
eyes to what is and what can be. When done incorrectly, it often leads to personal quarrels and arguments over whose opinion
is better, all of which has little to zero actual value. Just remember this next time you disagree with what someone says.
What they say is there OPINION and just because you don't agree with it doesn't make it wrong. I realize that all of this
is painfully obvious to most people, but the question is this. If people realize how obvious this is, then why is it nessesary
to write something like this?
